Studies on the nutrition of ROK Army recruits, and the fluctuations in their physical condition, body strength, and body fluid components during the basic training period

Abstract
17-Hydroxycorticoids (17-HOGS) and 17-Ketosteroids (17-KS) excreted in the urine were measured during the Infiltration-Firing Training, taking place on the last day of the 6 week basic training period, and the Individual Combat Training Test on next to the last day of basic training.
The control group consisted of 20 healthy enlistedmen (cadre), compared with 42 recruit trainees for this observation.
The outcome is as. follows:
a. In the urine of the control group, the amount of excretion of both 17-HOGS, and 17-KS was,
17-HOGS=8, 163.03 mg/day, 17-KS=14.03 4.33mg/day, this compares well with the normal value for Korean adult males.
b. The amount of excretion of 17-HOGS, and 17-KS from the urine of the recruit trainees was:
1.On the day of Individual Combat Training
Test: 17-HOGS=11.686.21mg/day, 17-KS= 17.75~6.40mg/day, compared with the control group, this shows an increase in both components.
2. On the day of Infiltration-Firing Training:
17-HC)CS =8.463.76mg/day, 17-KS =14.61¡¾4. 33mg/day, this is comparable to the value of the control group.
